Detox Green Smoothie
This delicious and satisfying Green Detox Smoothie is a great breakfast or snack because it’s loaded with vitamins and minerals.
Smoothies with green ingredients are much more than just a fad. This smoothie, which is loaded with vitamins, minerals, and nutrients, is great for breakfast, meal replacements, or post-workout recovery. For the ultimate balanced treat, you may tweak it by adding protein powder.
BENEFITS:
Detox: As the name suggests, this smoothie helps your body detox. Water is essential for hydration and detox, and green veggies provide much needed nourishment to the liver which is the primary organ of detoxification. Fiber helps your body eliminate toxins naturally, so adding extra components like chia seeds or flax seeds can aid the detox process. For some people, additional fiber support (like flax and chia seed) can complicate digestion and cause bloating and discomfort. If that’s you, check out my all time favorite fiber powder, Sunfiber. (Use the link and get 20% off!) I recommend this to all of my clients, and they LOVE it. Amazingly, every single one of my clients raves about this product which given the complex array of symptoms I help people through, that is really saying something! Use the link and get 20% off!
Digestion: Drinking a green smoothie has many benefits for the digestive system. Leafy greens are helpful for moving things along because they are full of fiber and easy to digest when pureed. Once the liver has detoxed environmental toxins, old hormones, alcohol (and the list goes on) from your system, the byproducts are sent to the colon for elimination. When toxins – and especially old hormones like estrogen – sit for too long in the colon, they can be reabsorbed into the system and wreak havoc on the endocrine system, liver and digestive system…not to mention just make you feel like garbage. A lethargic digestive system complicates detoxification, so speed up your transit time with leafy veggies, nutrient-dense fruit, fiber and water. If you struggle eating your leafy green veggies, try a green powder like Amazing Grains Organic Kale Powder. (Use the link and get 20% off!) 1 teaspoon of this powder equates to 2 cups of kale!
Immunity: Vitamins and minerals are abundant in fresh fruits and vegetables. Vitamins A and C are key for a robust immune system. Vitamin B provides essential fuel for the liver. Did you know that 75-80% of your immune system resides in your gut? Wild, right?! One of the best ways to support your immune system is to improve digestion as well as transit time.
Weight loss: By substituting a smoothie for a meal, you’ll consume fewer calories and have a greater sense of satiety. On the flip side, smoothies are sometimes not enough fuel, especially if you’re regularly exercising. Add a protein powder to your smoothie that is filled with good ingredients. One of my favorites is So Lean, So Clean. (Use the link and get 20% off!)
Healthy Skin: Vitamins C and E naturally enhance the skin and improve elasticity and radiance. One of the three main places that people will see the affects of detox (and/or notice an overflow of toxins that aren’t being well detoxed) are: hormone imbalances, digestive issues, and skin conditions like acne, rosacea and psoriasis. I will go out on a limb here, and tell you that I can guarantee your skin will dramatically change over the course of 30 days if you follow my recommendations in the IshbelWELL Detox Program, and this smoothie is a great start. Focus your diet on quality protein, healthy fats and a diverse selection of fruits and veggies and watch your skin transform before your eyes!
